The first exhibition hall, completed in 1914 for automobile exhibitions, was located north of today's exhibition center in the parking area between the central bus station and the S-Bahn ring. Berlin’s Messegelände exhibition grounds are easily identifiable from a distance, marked by the icon Funkturm radio tower dating from 1926. The tower, which looks rather like a smaller Messe Dusseldorf Eiffel Tower, soars nearly 147 metres upwards.
